Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable products free from edge drops to be obtained by supporting the shafts each having a large-diameter stepped part in the center, movably in the axial center direction, and fitting the sleeves of a required length according to the rolling conditions to the stepped parts of said shafts, freely rotatably and immovably in the axial line direction. CONSTITUTION:In the rolling mill roll, the roll is constituted by fitting bearings 3 respectively to the guide blocks 1, 2 which are arranged on the right and left, supporting a shaft 4 of an intermediate part larger in diameter than both sides movably in the axial line direction by means of a fluid pressure cylinder 7, and fitting a sleeve 5 having a predetermined length in correspondence to the width and rolling conditions of the plate P to be rolled to the large-diameter part of the shaft 4, in such a manner that it is freely rotatable but is prevented from moving axially by a thrust bearing 6. This roll is used as a work roll of 4-stage rolling mills and the stepped parts of the shafts are matched to the end parts of the width of the plate P in rolling, whereby the product of a uniform thickness distribution in the width direction free from edge drops is obtained.
