703,115. Clutches. PORSCHE KONSTRUKTIONER GES. Oct. 22, 1951 [Jan. 11, 1951], No. 24616/51. Class 80 (2) In change-speed gearing, a clutch sleeve 7 with internal teeth 8 adapted to be engaged with teeth 17 on a gear member 19 is frictionally synchronized by a split spring ring 13 carried by the member 19 and co-acting with the periphery of the teeth 8, the latter being arranged in groups with the end teeth 9, 10 shortened and chamfered to co-operate with inclined shoulders 6 on dogs 3 formed on a member 2 secured to the input shaft 1. So long as synchronism is not established, the parts occupy a position such as shown in Fig. 4 wherein further movement of teeth 8 towards teeth 17 is prevented, whereas, on the establishment of synchronism, the teeth 9, 10 slide past the dogs 3. A double clutch is shown the thickened parts 4 being alternately at opposite ends of the dogs 3. The inclination of the shoulders 6 may be different for the two speeds.
