Abstract

702,875. Valves. FLIGHT REFUELLING, Ltd., and WORLIDGE, R. F. Dec. 10, 1952 [April 30, 1952], No. 10920/52. Class 135 Means for effecting a fluid-tight seal between two members such as the spring-loaded closure member 22 and valve seat of a non-return valve consists of an initially flat rubber &c. ring 26 and a conical backing washer 27 both of which are received in an oblique groove 25 in one of the members, as shown, the movable closure member. This consists of two parts 23, 24 secured by a nut 21 on a stem 17 which is slidable in bearings 16 carried by spiders 14, 15 at each end of the valve housing. The housing consists of two pieces of metal tubing each expanded to part-spherical form and welded together at 12. The parts 23, 24 of the closure member are of a size to pass through the ends of the housing, and the ring 26 and backing washer, although of larger diameter, are deformable to an extent to enable them to be passed through the ends of the housing. The parts are assembled within the spherical part of the housing. The ring 26, which tends to regain its flat condition, is pressed against the backing washer 27 when the valve member closes on its seat in the housing.
