Class 38(5) [Also in Group XXXV] A thermal switch for use in starting hot cathode electric discharge lamps comprises, in one embodiment three parallel disposed bimetallic contact members 1 ... 3 of which two 2, 3 have respective heater windings 7, 9 and when cold are biased towards the member 1, all contacts being closed and all members bending the same way on temperature change. In other embodiments a single heater winding may be used and be associated with member 3, and the double-contact member 2 may be replaced by two single-contact members mechanically and electrically connected together.
