Abstract

699,354. Variable-speed gearing. CARDUNETS Y TALLADA, A., and DELCLAUX Y CAPILLA, F. Nov. 28, 1950 [Nov. 29, 1949; Oct. 31, 1950], No. 29117/50. Class 80 (ii). Variable-speed gearing comprises an internally-toothed ring 3 fixed to the driving member 1 and meshing with planet pinions 12 in a carrier 8 fixed to the driven shaft 4, each pinion 12 forming with the ring 3 a gear pump with suction and pressure chambers 13 and 14 in the carrier 8 interconnected by a conduit containing an adjustable valve 27. As shown in Figs. 1, 2, the ring 3 is fixed to a driving flywheel 1, the lift valves 27 being operated by pivoted arms 15 actuated by a cone 17 adjustable along the shaft 4. The gear is enclosed in a casing 2 secured to the flywheel 1 and containing oil which has access to the suction chambers 13. As shown in Figs. 4, 6, the ring 3 is fixed to the driving shaft 1. The pressure chamber of one pump communicates with the suction chamber of the adjacent pump through a conduit 28 containing a throttle valve 27 adapted to be rotated. by a spring-loaded plunger 42 slidable in the shaft 4 under the control of a lever 38, the plunger 42 having a cam end 43 actuating spring-loaded rods 45 with rack ends 47 engaging teeth on the valve spindles 48. A cover 21 secured to the ring 3 forms an oil space, and blades 35 and 36 formed on the carrier and cover 21 co-operate, during rotation, so as to contribute to the transmission of power. Openings 37, Fig. 6, between the blades 35 lead to the suction chambers of the pumps so that, due to the oil pressure developed by the blades, the gear pumps can function as motors, thus further contributing to the transmission of power.
