698,984. Lamp stands. CONNOR, A. A. May 5, 1952 [July 16, 1951], No. 16768/51. Class 52(iii) In counterbalanced lamp stands having a. counterweight 11 on a lever 12 connected by a parallelogram linkage with the lampcarrying arm 20, a rod 14 of the linkage connected at its upper and lower ends to an intermediate point 19 of the upper arm 20 and to the end of the lever 12 remote from the counterweight, is arranged longitudinally within a tubular lower arm 8. The rod 14 may be straight or bent at the ends to pass through side slots in the tube to increase the distance between the parallelogram pivots 13, 10 and 19, 16. The lower arm 8 is pivoted at 7 to an upright 4 and is connected by the pivot 10 at its lower end to the counterweight lever 12 and by the pivot 1 at its upper end to the lamp-carrying arm 20. The pivot 19 is offset from the centre line of the arm 20 to give a parallelogram action even when the arms 20, 8 are co-linear. The position of the pivot 7 is so chosen that the counterweight 11 balances the two arms and the lamp in all positions. The upright 4 rotates on a pillar 2 and the arm 20 rotates in a socket 17. Tightening nuts may be provided on the pivots 7, 16.
