Abstract

698,926. Umbrellas. ROSENKAIMER GES. Jan. 7, 1952 [Jan. 9, 1951], No.521/52. Class 134. In a self-opening telescopic umbrella of the type having a compression spring 10 arranged betweer the main slide 6 anc the auxiliary slide 8 a sleeve 9 attached tc the auxiliary slide 8 is freely displaceable on a sleeve 7 attached to the mair slide 6 and in the opened position of the umbrella abuts against the crown 5 A resilient buffer 14 is preferably secured to the crown to damp the impact. Upper sections 3 of the telescopic ribs are pivoted to the crown 5 and main struts 11 extending from the auxiliary slide 8 are pivotally connected with the outer rib sections (not shown). The auxiliary struts 12 extending from the main slide 6 are pivotally connected to points intermediate the ends of the main struts 11. The spring 10 holds the umbrella open, so no upper locking spring for the main slide is necessary, and the lower stem section (not shown) which telescopes within the upper section 2 can be made so long that it reaches as far as the crown when the stem sections are telescoped. The upper end of the sleeve 9 is shaped by means of a groove 15 so that during the opening of the umbrella the sleeve passes without jamming over the lower end of the upper stem section 2. The auxiliary slide 8 may be retained in the topmost position by providing the buffer 14 with a downwardly extending annular projection provided with an internal bead which engages over the upper end of the sleeve 9.
