Abstract
698,510. Endless conveyers and elevators. HESEPER TOREWERK GES. March 6, 1951. [March 8, 1950] No. 5361/51. Class 78 (i). A mobile apparatus for mechanically collecting peat sods laid out on a field for drying and adapted to be driven over the field, comprises a plurality of elevators provided with rake bars adapted to pick up the sods and feed them to a conveyer arranged transversely to the elevators and to the direction of travel of the apparatus and adapted to convey the sods to a collecting point, each of said elevators being coupled to the conveyer by a universal or other coupling whereby the elevators are capable of pivotal movement about the coupling in a vertical plane and also laterally relative to the conveyer. As shown, a number of elevators A, arranged side-by-side and comprising rake bars 7 mounted on a pair of endless chains B, feed the sods to a belt conveyer B supported by a plurality of trolleys 17 spaced along its length. Each elevator is mounted on the frame 4 of the conveyer B by a coupling 5 such as a universal joint, and is supported at its lower end by wheels 6. The chains 8 pass over sprockets 9 keyed to the axles of the wheels 6, and sprockets 10 keyed to a hollow shaft 11 driven by a motor 12 through a torsion bar 11a extending through the shaft 11 and coupled thereto through gearing 13. The upper runs of the chains 8 pass over a sieve table 14 comprising a perforated sheet through which passes fine earth which becomes removed from the sods. Outwardly inclined guide plates (not shown) are preferably provided at the front sides of the elevators to guide sods which would otherwise pass between adjacent elevators into the path of the elevators.
