Abstract

698,486. Bobbins. INDUSTRIAL REELS, Ltd. Feb. 21, 1951 [Feb. 21, 1950], No. 4447/50. Class 120(iii) A reel of moulded thermoplastic material e.g. cellulose acetate, cellulose acetobutyrate, polyethylene, polystyrene, comprises a barrel 1, and integral flanges 2, 2 to which is bonded, wholly or partly by keying, a reinforcing sleeve 8 of "dimensionally stable material" which may be in such form as paper sheets, or a paper or cardboard tube which may be impregnated or coated with synthetic resin, or a metal tube. The bond may be formed by the moulding material extruding into a groove, as at 9 grooves, or perforations in the sleeve, and may be improved by an adhesive covering of the surface in contact with the moulded material and, where the reinforcement is a metal tube, by splaying, bell-mouthing, or roughly perforating its ends. The reel shown comprises end closure 3, removable closure 6, and spindle bearings 5 and 7.
