Successive cleaning of groups of air filters g, Fig. 2, in each of a plurality of filter casing sections e and suspended from a plate f, Fig. 3 above which is a space divided into as many compartments h as there are sections e is effected by a positively driven rotary valve j, o located between the compartments h corresponding to the sections e, and a clean air outlet m; the valve serving to isolate each section e in turn from the outlet m and connect it to atmosphere or pressure air, thereby causing a reverse flow of filter cleaning air through the isolated compartment h and section e. The valve rotor o, which may be driven continuously or intermittently by a motor q, comprises as many sections t as there are compartments h and sections e, and all but one t are open at the top and bottom but closed at the sides, and the odd section t<SP>1</SP> is open at the bottom, closed at the top and two sides and has a port u in the peripheral side which when in register with an aperture n in the valve stator j effects the reversal of air flow. The stator j has an aperture n for each rotor section t.
