1315549 Rotary drum filter URALSKY ZAVOD KHIMICHESKOGO MASCHINOSTREENIA 9 June 1970 27774/70 Heading B1D A rotary drum vacuum filter whose drum surface is divided into cells 2 has a rotary valve with a channel 17 whereby each cell 2b which has just risen clear of suspension being filtered is connected to the cell 2a which has just entered the suspension, so that filtrate flows from cell 2b to cell 2a, from which it is expelled in the reverse direction through the filtering surface thereof as the cell reaches position 2c, where one or both of its ducts 9, 10 are connected by the valve to a compressed air supply. This leaves a comparatively large sector w of the drum available for filtration proper. The valve also connects the leading duct 9 of cell 2b to atmosphere and the following duct 10 of cell 2a to vacuum to assist filling of cell 2a. Cell 2d is shown with suction applied only to its leading duct 9 to ensure the cell is full of filtrate when it reaches position 2b. The amount of filtrate used in reverse flow cleaning may be increased by pockets (12) (Figs. 3, 5, 6, not shown) extending-the volume of each cell.
