696,624. Chain-wheels. TRANSEAU, S. T. Nov. 7, 1951 [Nov. 8, 1950; Oct. 16, 1951], No. 26072/51. Class 80 (i). [Also in Group XXX] A chain-wheel for driving an endless chain of articulated links, particularly in a bucket elevator, has a rim 12 with a corrugated surface formed of grooves 20 smoothly merged by convex projections 21. The grooves 20 are of a radius at least equal to, and a depth less than, the radius of the barrels 19 of the link connecting pins 18 of the chain 17. A plurality of grooves may be provided per link of the chain and the ratio of the total number of grooves to the number per link is arranged to be other than a whole number so that wear is equally distributed over the grooves. A positive drive is obtained up to a certain overload when slippage will occur.
