Abstract

498,579. Driving-belts. QUESTER, C., QUESTER, K., and TOGEL, W. March 9, 1938, No. 7369. [Class 80 (i)] An articulated belt for use with V-groove pulleys comprises a chain composed of opposite parallel side plates articulated together in laterally spaced relation by links and along both flanks of which are mounted wedgeshaped friction layers which conform to the shape of the pulley and are formed as independent endless bands. The side plates 3 are connected by links 6 and bolts 7 and receive the friction layer 1 which is a continuous piece secured either by bending over the plate as in Fig. 4, or a number of continuous layers secured by an undercut or wedging inner surface of the bent-over part 3. The layers are supported in engagement with the upper gripping edges of the plates 3 by pins 5. Where the belt has to pass over small pulleys, the friction layers may be slotted as at 8, Fig. 5, up to the neutral plane and the support pins 5 engage the bottoms of the slots.
