Abstract
696,616. Cleaning floors; reservoir brushes. MINERLEY, F. K. Sept. 6, 1951, No. 21090/51. Classes 19 and 138 (i). A floor-cleaning apparatus comprises a floorcontacting nozzle (not shown) connected by an upwardly inclined rigid tube 13 to an expansion space above the liquid level in a reservoir chamber 10 connected to a source of vacuum e.g., a domestic suction cleaner by means of a conduit 20 having a manually operated valve 25, said inclined tube 13 having a submerged opening 41 controlled by a valve 39. The valve 25 comprises a sleeve having rows of ports 26 open to atmosphere and axially adjustable with respect to ports 24 in the suction tube 20 by a handle 27 carrying a post 28 passing through a slot 29 and connected by a spring- biassed rod 30 to the valve 39 with a lost motion connection. The sleeve 25 may assume any of three positions viz. ; the highest position wherein some of the ports 26, 24 are in register to maintain atmospheric pressure in the chamber 10 and the valve 39 opens to allow access of liquid to the nozzle; the intermediate position wherein the valve 39 is closed and the ports 26, 24 still register whilst the floor is scrubbed; and the lowest position wherein the valve 39 is closed and the ports 26, 24 are out of register to provide vacuum in the chamber 10 by which liquid is drawn up from the nozzle. Baffles 43, 44, 45 prevent access of liquid particles into the suction tube 20.
