Abstract
696,459. Hasp fastenings. JORDAN, K. R. Oct. 19, 1951 [Nov. 4, 1950], No. 24476/51. Class 44 A hasp fastening, e.g. for a brief case comprises a plate 2 secured to the case body 1 and carrying a bridge piece 3 and a tongue member 6 secured to a plate 5 on the flap 4 of the case and having mounted in an aperture therein a pivoted latch 7 spring loaded so that the upper-most end will project and snap behind the bridge when the tongue is passed under it. A spring loaded bolt 11 arranged to slide in the tongue has a lip 12 to engage an inturned flange 16 of the latch when this is pressed in at the upper end to retain the latch automatically in the releasing position so that the tongue may pass out from under the bridge. A projecting end of the bolt 11 engages the side of the bridge as the tongue passes into or out of the securing position and is displaced thereby to release the latch 7. To prevent the latch moving in so far that it is retained by the bolt 11 when it passes under the bridge during closing, the central part of the bridge is outwardly set, the tongue being guided on the side corners 17, 18 only.
