Abstract

696,437. Finishing fabrics. WOOD, Ltd., B. W. Nov. 30, 1951. [Dec. 1, 1950] No. 29423/50. Class 42 (i). A nap-raising machine of the type in which a rotary cylinder carries pile rollers alternating with counter pile rollers, has the cylinder and pile rollers driven by an electric motor, and the counter pile rollers driven independently by a second motor, the speeds of the motors being controllable to vary the relative speeds of each series of rollers. The cylinder A is driven at both ends by belts bl engaging pulleys b<SP>2</SP> on a shaft b, driven through a belt b<SP>10</SP> by a motor B. The pile rollers a are driven from a chain wheel A<SP>2</SP> through a chain C<SP>1</SP> which drives a shaft C, pinions c<SP>1</SP> and c<SP>2</SP> driving a shaft C2, from which a shaft C3 carrying a cone pulley C' is driven by a chain c<SP>3</SP>; the cone pulley C<SP>4</SP> drives a second cone pulley c<SP>5</SP> on the stub shaft c<SP>4</SP> of which are grooved pulleys c<SP>5</SP> over which pass belts c<SP>6</SP> driving pulleys d mounted on each pile roller spindle outside the disc A. A chain wheel c<SP>7</SP> on the shaft c<SP>4</SP> drives through a chain c'‹ a chain wheel c<SP>8</SP> on a shaft c<SP>9</SP> on which is mounted a grooved pulley d<SP>2</SP> over which a belt c<SP>6</SP> passes to provide a second drive for the pile rollers a. The counter pile rollers are driven by a motor B<SP>1</SP>, which drives a shaft b<SP>3</SP> through a belt b<SP>8</SP> or chain ; the shaft b<SP>3</SP> carries a pulley b<SP>6</SP> driving an endless belt b<SP>7</SP> driving pulleys d' on the counter pile spindles, and is connected by a chain b<SP>5</SP> to a second shaft b' which provides a further drive to the counter pile rollers. The motors B and B<SP>1</SP> are provided with a common series of starting resistances, but provision may be made for ensuring that the motor B attains full speed before the motor B<SP>1</SP>. Each motor is provided with a separate ammeter, and the motor B<SP>1</SP> has a handoperated shunt regulator.
