Abstract

695,080. Fuel-injection pumps. BOSCH GES., R. Oct. 15, 1951 [Oct. 19, 1950], No. 23913/51. Class 102 (i). In a fuel-injection pump, the suction port 10 is controlled by the pump piston 3 and the pump delivery can be controlled by rotating the piston and thus the point at which an inclined edge 5 on the piston connects the port 14 with a spill port 11 connected to a spill chamber 7 fitted with a spring-loaded valve 9. The port 14 communicates with a space 17 beyond the seat 20 of the valve 18. The valve 18 has an extension 32 that enters a bore 33 to leave a restricted passage for the fuel and also has a conical portion 31 that forms with the bore in the valve housing. the space 17. As the speed of the pump increases, the lift of the valve 18 increases until the groove 28 is uncovered and fuel is permitted to return through passage 29 to the suction side of the pump. In a modification the valve 9 is omitted and a further valve may be inserted in the passage 25 and may be of the kind to prevent drip at the injector.
