Abstract

Refractory articles are produced or repaired by shaping fusible material, placing fuel contiguous to one surface thereof and burning said fuel in an atmosphere containing, by volume, at least 30 per cent, oxygen. Solid carbonaceous fuel is preferred, and specified fusible materials are magnesite, magnesia, dolomite, alumina, bauxite, zirconia, chromite, silica or clay. If burning is of short duration only a surface glaze will ensue. According to the Provisional Specification the oxygen content may fall to 20 per cent.
