Abstract

The invention comprises thiaxanthones of the formula: <FORM:0690466/IV (b)/1> where n is 2 or 3 and R and salts thereof, anp their production by condensing 1-chloro-4-methyl-thiaxanthone with a substituted piperazine of the formula: <FORM:0690466/IV (b)/2> The reactions may be effected in a high-boiling solvent, e.g. quinoline or phenol. Examples are given of the preparation of 1-ethyl-4-b -(41 - methyl - thiaxanthone - 11 - amino) - ethyl piperazine and 11-ethyl- and 11-butyl-4-g -(41-methyl - thiazanthone - 11 - amino) - propyl piperazine and their hydrochlorides. 1-chloro-4-methyl-thiazanthone is obtained by reacting thiosalicylic acid with p-chlorotoluene.
