690,460. Practice ammunition. JERNBERG, E. W. Aug. 16, 1951 [Aug. 18, 1950], No. 19332/51. Class 9(i) Practice ammunition for short range shooting with a weapon provided with means for reducing the calibre of the bore comprises a normal calibre cartridge case in which is fixed a projectile of normal calibre and frangible material, adapted to be shattered in the bore, a metal pellet of reduced calibre being fixed in the projectile. In the base of the cartridge case 10 is a percussion cap 11 to fire the charge 12 and eject the projectile 13; which has a body 14 of a brittle material, e.g. "Bakelite" (Registered Trade Mark) or ebonite filled with organic material such as wood flour. A recess 15 may be provided in the base of the projectile. to facilitate shattering. Fitting into the nose of the projectile is a metal pellet 16 which may be of lead or steel. The pellet may be spherical or lengthened at the rear to fit within the projectile. Thus the rear part of the pellet may be cylindrical, conical or "diabolo"-shaped. The pellet is preferably moulded in the projectile and may be provided with recesses, hooks or barbs to anchor it in the frangible material.
