688,897. Twist-grip controls. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd., and WOOD, A. E. Sept. 30, 1949 [Sept. 30, 1948], No. 25444/48. Addition to 571,489. Class 136 (i) A modification of a twist grip according to claim 1 of the parent Specification, comprises a sleeve 2 rotatably and slidably mounted on a handle-bar 1 and co-operating with means 9 rigid with the handle-bar to restrict axial movement of the sleeve and to retain the sleeve in any predetermined angular position relative to the handle-bar. As shown, a visible part 4 of the sleeve 2 is formed with a semi-circular slot 5 having angularly spaced recesses 6, 7, 8 in which the head 10 of a pin 9 engages. To the other end of the sleeve 2 is secured a cap 11 connected to an inwardly extending bush 13 in which a link 14 is slidably mounted and engaged by a screw threaded adjusting pin 15 whose head 16 pulls up against the outer end of the cap 11. To urge the sleeve 2 into engagement with the head 10 of the pin 9, a helical spring 19 is attached to the pin 9 and to a pin 18 extending between two arms 17 of the link 14. The screw 15 varies the tension in the spring. A tube 21 is supported on the bush 13 and is formed with a helical cam slot 22 engaged by a cam follower pin 20 secured in the bush 13. The tube is formed with a pair of diametrically opposed axial slots 23 through which the pin 9 passes so that the tube 21 can move axially but non-rotatably relative to the handle-bar 1. A cable 26 connects the tube 21 to a three speed gear.
