Abstract

686,432. Knitting-machines. SCOTT & WILLIAMS, Inc. Feb. 14, 1951, [Aug. 31. 1950] No. 3593/51. Class 74 (ii). To assist the take-down and guidance of a turned welt from the needles of a circular machine a flow of air is directed against the turned welt as it passes within the needle cylinder. The mechanism is described in connection with the take-down rollers and the welt guiding fin described in Specification 676,730 and comprises an air tube 16 projecting through the dial cap 12 carrying the welt elements 10 and directs a flow of air through apertures 14 in the dial on to the welt W. In the case of stockings formed in a continuous string, an inner tube 31 is provided secured to the tube 24 carrying the fin directing the welt downwardly as described in Specification 676,730, an annular space 35 thereby being provided between the tubes 24, 31. As the welt of a following stocking is completed it passes in to the space 35 where it is assisted in its downward movement by the air directed 'from the tube 16, the air passing through the fabric of the previous stocking extending from the welt elements 10 over the top end of the tube 31 to the fabric take-down rollers. When individual stockings are completed the inner tube 31 is not used.
