Abstract

685,690. Knitting-machines. HEMPHILL CO. April 26, 1949. [May 12, 1948] No. 11051/49. Class 74 (ii). In addition to the main cam drum 1, which cannot be rocked more frequently than once in every four revolutions of the needle cylinder, there is provided a cam drum 14 which can be rocked, at every cylinder revolution, by a pawl 16 acting on ratchet 15 secured to the drum. The rocking of drum 14 is arrested at predetermined points by insertion of removable tooth-fillers 17 and is started again by a cam or cams 18 on drum 1, which rock drum 14 through linkage 3, 5, 7, rockable plate 9 bearing a pawl 11, and a second ratchet also secured to the drum, to bring the operative filler from under pawl 16. The drum 14 may be rocked round manually by means of a handle 21 pivoted on plate 9 and which, when not in use, may be swung out of the way by a spring 22.
