Abstract

685,172. Collapsable gates. MARSHALL, A. J. Oct. 4, 1951 [Nov. 8, 1950]. No. 27326/50. Class 45. A guard for a window, door or other opening comprises a collapsable lattice which can be detachably connected to two opposite boundary members of the opening and reinforcing means which can be expanded so as to be locked in position between the boundary members, the reinforcing means co-operating with the lattice to limit its flexure. The lattice is formed of slats 10, 11 pivoted together, the end slats being pivoted at the centres of end plates 16, 19 and connected to their ends by pin and slot. connections 17, 18. The plate 19 has an eyelet at its centre so that it may be attached by a padlock to a similar : eyelet on a plate 25. To each end of each of the plates 16, 25 distance pieces 21, 26 are fixed, each distance piece having a socket 22, 27 in one face which is spanned by a diametrical pin 24. On the opposite face is a layer 23 of resilient material such as felt or rubber. The plates 16, 25 are held in engagement with the opening by two reinforcing, means each of which is positioned between a distance piece 21 and a distance piece 26, its ends which are notched entering the sockets 22, 27 and engaging the pins 24. Each reinforcing member consists of a tube 31 and an externally threaded rod 33 which is a sliding fit in the tube. The length of each reinforcing member is adjusted by a nut 35 on the threaded rod. The ends of each of the lattice slats 11 except those ends which are connected to the plates 16, 19 are bent to form hooks which engage over the reinforcing members and prevent flexure of the lattice. The lattice may carry shrouds which cover the adjusting nuts 35 for the members 33 when the lattice is extended.
