Abstract
683,431. Electromagnetic switches. TELEPHONE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. June 13,1951 [June 22, 1950], No. 15632/50. Class 38 (v) [Also in Group XXXV] The driving device for an electromagnetic switch, particularly one having a plurality of contact spring sets, comprises an electromagnet with a coil 11 and two polepieces 10c, 10d, a permanent magnet 12a between the pole pieces, and two soft iron pole caps 12b each mounted near one pole of the permanent magnet and rotatable between the pole pieces 10c, 10d. The permanent magnet is stationary and the pole caps 12b are connected by brackets which rotate about the spindle 13. The arrangement can be such that the pole caps have an unstable or a stable central position, this depending on the length of the pole caps. The form shown has an unstable central position and the rotor normally rests with the pole caps engaging stops formed by a bracket 14. A current impulse of suitable direction moves the rotor into its other position. The driving device may drive a cam shaft through a pawl and ratchet drive and so operate the contact spring sets. A reduction gear may be used so that two or more impulses are required to effect a switch operation.
