Abstract

680,895. Shuttleless small ware looms; beat-up machanism; shedding mechanism; fabrics. VOUMARD, B., and NICOLET, W. Nov. 1, 1948 [Nov. 1, 1947], No. 28337/48. Classes 142(i), 142(ii), 142(iii) and 142(iv) In a loom for weaving several ribbons, weft is inserted as single threads and loops of thread alternately, the two limbs of the loops being beaten up individually. Shedding mechanism, Fig. 2. Rods 13a, b divide the warp into two sheets, threaded respectively through heddles 5, 6 which, in the position shown, form a "crossed" shed and, when moved apart, form an "open" shed, the warp sheets then extending direct from the rods 13a, b to the fell. Weft interters, Figs. 2 and 4. When the shed is crossed, weft extending from a supply 4 through a tube 9 to the selvedge is pushed into the shed in loop form by one end 10a of a loop inserter 10; the lower limb of the loop is beaten up by one of a pair of combs 11, 12, .and the upper limb is beaten up by the other comb after the loop inserter has been withdrawn from the shed. The shed then opens and the tube 9 traverses it from right to left to lay a single thread, which is beaten up by one of the combs. On the next (crossed) shed, a loop of weft is inserted (from left to right) by a loop inserter (not shown), the end 10b of the inserter 10 meanwhile pushing weft into the next fabric on the right. The loop inserters may have double ends 10c, d, as shown in Fig. 12, in which case the fabrics are grouped in pairs, the corresponding tubes 9 being staggered so that the end 10c passes through the first fabric of a pair, without engaging its weft, and inserts a loop of weft into the second fabric, the part 10d simultaneously a loop into the first fabric. Beat-up mechanism, Fig. 19. The comb 11 is carried by a frame 15 which is reciprocated horizontally by a cam I, follower 22, and link 23; the frame runs on balls 18, about which it is rocked by a cam II and follower 24 to move the comb 11 vertically. The frame 15 is located sideways by balls 27 bearing on pads 26 on the frame. The beat-up comb 12 is carried by a smaller frame (not shown) arranged within the frame 15 and similarly operated. The cams are such that each comb is lifted a smaller distance before beating up the lower limb of a weft loop than before beating up a single thread or the upper limb of a loop.
