Abstract

1378927 Spool Axminster looms FIELDCREST MILLS Inc 23 Feb 1972 [3 Nov 1971] 8449/72 Heading D1E In a spool Axminster loom, the spool conveyor 26 lowers the tuft yarn tubes 25B directly into the shed, where loops W1, W2 of weft are inserted to either side of the row of tuft yarns 24 by needles 36, 37 acting simultaneously in the same horizontal plane, and as the reed 12 beats up, spool 25 moves forward in unison, the lower part of the tuft is bent up around the nearmost weft loop W2 by projections 13A on breast comb teeth. 13, and the tuft loop thus formed is. severed at the fell from the spool yarn by a knife 75 which moves rearwardly to the fell. The spool conveyor 26 is advanced stepwise by a pawl (27D) actuated by a cam (27K) Fig. 7 (not shown) on the loom main shaft 35 and acting on a ratchet wheel (27B) fixed to shaft 27A of sprocket wheel 27 which lowers the spools 25 down to the shed. Weft holding and advancing; selvedges forming. As the two weft loops are inserted, fingers (73) Fig. 12 (not shown) and 72, Fig. 10, on either side of the fabric, rise to between the two loops to maintain them separated. Further fingers, (71) Fig. 14 (not shown) which are vertical and 70, Fig. 10, horizontal, then advance the front weft loops towards the fell. Finger 70, on the opposite side of the loom from that from which the weft is inserted, passes through the rear weft loop W2, and a notch 70K abuts the front loop W1 to move it forwardly while a selvedge shuttle (65) Fig; 9 (not shown) simultaneously passes a catch cord (20C) Fig. 2 (not shown) through the two weft loops. The fingers 70, 71, 72 then retract, but finger 13 does not retract until the weft inserters 36, 37 have fully withdrawn from the shed. The fingers are actuated by linkages driven by cams on the loom main shaft 35 or an auxiliary shaft (719) which is driven from the main shaft by a chain (71H) Fig. 6 (not shown). Pile tufts protecting. The formed pile tufts 24A are shielded by a plate 80, Fig. 4, which moves downwards and forwards to bend the pile tufts down (Fig. 5, not shown) as knife 75 moves rearwardly to cut the newly formed tufts. Beat-up motions, Fig. 3. The sley is driven by a grooved cam 46 fixed to the loom main shaft 35. Since two picks are inserted for every main shaft rotation, the cam is diametrically symmetrical and is shaped so that the reed 11 dwells in the centre of its path of travel on its forward stroke, as in Fig. 3, while the wefts are inserted. Shedding motions, Fig. 11. Two heald shafts 10, 11 are shedded by a grooved cam 62 the loom main shaft which is shaped so that the upper warp sheet is returned to the middle shed position after the reed has moved back past the centre of the path, and maintained there until the reed has returned from back dead centre position to its dwell position when the shed is opened. The shed is crossed when the reed beats up to the fell. Take up motions Fig. 8. The take-up roller and cloth roll 23 are both driven by a pawl acting on a ratchet wheel 22A, the pawl being actuated by a cam 22B on the loom main shaft 35. Warps, guiding, Fig. 3. Warp separator plates 47 are moved into the warp as the reed moves to the back dead centre position and are retracted as the reed moves forwardly.
