680,416. Connecting rods; gudgeon pins. PITNER, A., and SOC. ANON DES ROULEMENTS A AIGUILLES. April 26, 1951 [May 31, 1950]. No. 9723/51. Class 122 (i) [Also in Group XXXIV] In an engine including a cylinder 1, a piston 2 reciprocating therein, and a bearing with movable cylindrical elements 9 disposed between the piston and its connecting rod 5, at least one of the two races of the bearing is no longer cylindrical but has a connexity towards the cylindrical roller elements 9. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 the race 8 is formed by a cylindrical bore in the connecting rod while the convex race 11 is formed on the gudgeon pin 3 which is secured to the piston by a screw 7, has a radius of curvature at least eighty times the length of the rollers 9, and has lubricating passages 12. The inner race may be cylindrical and the outer convex, or both may be convex. In another embodiment two bearings are shown between the connecting rod and gudgeon pin, and in others the gudgeon pin is fixed in the end of the connecting rod and the bearings are mounted in the gudgeon pin bosses of the piston.
