Abstract

677,946. Transformers. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. June 20, 1950 [July 9, 1949; July 9, 1949], No. 15363/50. Class 38 (ii). A three-phase magnetic core comprises laminations of magnetic strip bent flatwise of the laminations to form three winding leg portions 18, 20, 22 and two turned end portions, as 24-26, 28-30, 32-34, for each winding leg portion, the end portions being so assembled that, in each lamination layer, one end portion lamination, say 24, of one leg portion 18 terminates in a common yoke area in butt joint relationship with the corresponding laminations of the other two end portions 28, 32, together with an insert 40 of magnetic sheet material disposed between each pair of lamination layers so as to overlap the butt joints of the end portions. The ends of the laminations may be cut in a number of shapes and the assembled core may be either Y- or T-shaped in the yoke. The construction allows the most favourable magnetic direction of the material to be used to a large extent and if the laminations and the inserts are of the same thickness and an insert is placed between adjacent single laminations, the thickness of the yoke is twice that of the winding leg.
