Abstract

671,823. Transformers and inductances. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 3, 1949 [Feb. 6, 1948], No. 3007/49. Class 38 (ii). In order to obtain maximum utilization of the sheet strip in forming an air gapped core of E and I laminations the three legs 7, 8 of the E portion 2 are made of equal length and the I portion 9, obtained when punching a pair of E portions, is provided at opposite ends on at least one side thereof short integral extensions 10 of projection corresponding to the air gap 12 required, and which extensions are arranged to abut the ends of the outer legs 7 and thereby form air gap 12 between the end of the middle leg 8 and the middle portion of the I lamination 9. The outer corners of the middle leg may be bevelled when punching to facilitate coil assembly and the portion removed may form a notch 11 on the I lamination. A double reactor may be made from two E portions separated by an I portion having the integral extensions on both sides thereof (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown). By making the extension on one side different from that on the other two air gaps of different widths may be obtained by inverting the I portion. Figs. 5-7 (not shown).
