In a trackway for plain wheeled vehicles of the kind having tracks level with the ground and of a gauge corresponding with the distance between the wheels of the vehicle and wherein the vehicle is guided by a central guide rail projecting above the ground level with its lateral sides engaged by means on the vehicle, there is provided at places where a road crosses the trackway at the same level a trackway road-crossing eq uipmentcomprising a length of guide rail located in a recess and displaceable relative to the road surface so as to project above the road surface in the operative position and to lie flush therewith in the inoperative position. The equipment also comprising warning means associated with the actuating means by which the guide rail is set whereby the road trackway user is warned that the guide rail is in the operative or inoperative position. The guide rail 12 pivoted in split bearings 19 arranged along its foot portion 16 is rotated from the inoperative position, shown in full lines in Fig. 2, through levers 30, 32 and link 31 to the operative position, shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, by moving a gate 28 from a position extending across the trackway to a position extending across the road. In the inoperative position one side of the head of the guide rail 12 rests on a cut-out portion of the lower half of the bearing 19 whilst the other side of the head and a side of the foot portion 16 lie flush with the road surface 23. The warning may be given by a semaphore, by the gate being in the barrier position, a warning disc 38 or a lamp attached to the gate 28. Specification 642,699 is referred to.
