676,257. Variable-pitch propellers. UNITED AIRCRAFT CORPORATION. March 21, 1950 [March 30, 1949], No. 6993/50. Class 114. Blade settings are varied by the vane motors 30, fluid for which is supplied by pumps 34 rotating with hub and engaging the cam 40 which is normally stationary. The fluid is controlled by valve 38, the position of which is controlled by the plate 58, whose axial position is determined by rotation of the member 130 and cam slot 134, the member being rotated about the shaft axis bv rack 108 under control of servomotor 80. Fluid for the servomotor is supplied by pump 96 and controlled by governor valve 92 to maintain constant speed. For feathering and reverse with shaft running the electric controlled valves 104, 144, 146 are operated to cut out the governor valve and direct fluid from pump 96 to the servomotor. For feathering the blades with the shaft stationary the cam 40 is rotated about the shaft by the motor 78, thus operating the pumps 34. Under these conditions auxiliary pump 158 supplies fluid to operate the servomotor. Specifications 560,522 and 670,412 are referred to.
