Class 40 (ii) [Also in Group XXIV] A shaft 7 driving magnetic tape 11 in recording and reproducing apparatus is driven through a clutch comprising a coil spring 12, attached at one end to a flanged cup 9 fast on a driven spindle 7, and expanded out of self-tightening frictional clutch engagement with an underlying boss 5 of a freely mounted driving pulley 3 by rocking a stop-lever 15 into engagement with the tangential free end of the clutch-spring. The upper shaft-bearing exposes the shaft 7 at one side to provide a driving surface for the tape 11.
