Abstract

674,790. Snap-action switches. STACKPOLE CARBON CO. Aug. 4, 1050. [Aug. 4, 1949] No. 19513/50. Class 38 (v). A double-pole switch, which may be secured to a rheostat, has an insulating base 1 carrying a post 3 on which are mounted a trigger 8, adapted to be operated by the rheostat control shaft, and an insulating arm 7 connected to the trigger by a dead-centre torsion spring 11 and carrying spring contacts 23, 27 adapted to bridge pairs 4, 5 of fixed contacts, respectively. The post 3 has a collar resting on the base and of the same height as the fixed contacts 4, 5 so that the arm 7 slides over the ends of the contacts, thereby leaving a space between the arm and the base in which the contacts 23, 27 are movable. The latter are each of substantially V-shape, having diverging ends adapted to slidably engage the sides of the contacts 4, 5, the surfaces of which are thereby kept clean, the contacts 23, 27 having lugs 22, 26 located in holes 21, 25 in the arm 7. The base 1 has a side wall 10 made from a strip of metal having lugs 15, 17 bent over to engage holes in the base, and lugs 19 for attachment to the rheostat.
