Abstract

673,829. Disc brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and BUTLER, H. J. Feb. 3, 1950 [Feb. 16, 1949], No. 4209/49. Class 103 (i). The friction pads 18, 20, 22 of a disc brake are applied through a pressure-plate 21 by a rod 13 parallel to the brake axis and disposed between a pair of capsules 10 mounted on a torque plate 5, and which engages the mid-point of a lever 16 whose ends are in operative engagement with the respective capsules. Pipes 26, 28 connect the capsules with main and auxiliary pressure sources respectively. Normally both capsules are operated to effect movement of the rod 13, but in the event of failure of either pressure system the other operates one of the capsules to effect brake application. Each brake disc is in two co-planar portions separated by a radial gap through which the rod 13 passes. The end of the rod 13 may be provided with a nut 23 and spring 24 for taking up slack, as described in Specification 631,877. Specifications 625,726, 641,665, 654,754 and 660,209 also are referred to.
