Classes 120(i), 120(ii) and 120(iii) An intermediate unit for the drafting apparatus described in Specification 671,633 is adapted to be connected detachably to the apparatus between feed and drafting rollers and includes gearing to connect the intermediate rollers to a driving gear in the apparatus. The intermediate rollers 16, 17 preferably are horizontally arranged. but they may be mounted vertically. Lower roller 17 and the lower feed roller 13 may be flanged, the latter as described in Specification 671,641. As described in Specification 671,644, the channel-shaped member 18 and roving guide 14 have projecting lugs entering between the flanges of the lower intermediate roller 17, serving to guide the roving and clean the roller. Both intermediate rollers 16, 17 are positively driven through gears associated with a gear 76 on the main drafting apparatus. Cover plates enclose the gears and a gear fixed to the shaft of the upper roller 16 moves out of engagement during the raising of the upper roller to threading position, as described in Specification 671,639. The unit 24 is secured on the main apparatus by side pins 63 and pressure is applied to the rollers 16, 17 by removable weights 49 also in the manner described in the last-mentioned Specification. The channel-shaped member 18 may be located by means described in Specification 671,638. When employed on a spinning frame, one intermediate unit 24 is employed for each spindle and several units are mounted in sections, a support 29 being provided for each section. All the units 24 may be moved towards or away from the drafting rollers 19, 21 simultaneously by means described in Specification 671,640 and including a device indicating the degree of movement of the units. Traversing of the units may be effected as described in Specification 671,637.
