Abstract

665,359. Windscreen cleaners. O'SHEI, W. E. Nov. 18, 1949 [Nov. 15, 1948], No. 29678/48. Class 138 (i) [Also in Group XXV] A connector for a windscreen wiper blade and wiper arm, comprises two members respectively attachable to the blade and arm, one member being provided with a pair of spigots which project outwardly therefrom coaxially in opposite directions, at least one of the spigots being movable inwardly relative to the member against the action of a spring and the complementary member comprising a pair of surfaces having apertures for engagement with the spigots. Two separate spigots 6, each integral with a collar 7 and a stem 9, pass through apertures 5 in ears 4 upstanding from the back of channel shaped metal stamping 2 secured to the back of the wiper blade 1. The spigots are pressed outwardly by a helical spring 8 positioned between the collars 7. The gap 10 between the inner ends of the stems 9 is such as to permit the spigots to be pressed inwardly between the ears 4 so that their outer ends are flush with the outer surfaces of the ears. The spigots are received in apertures 15 in the end walls of a hollow die-cast housing 11 attachable to a wiper arm 14 and the inner surfaces of the walls at their bottom edges may be chamfered to facilitate assembly of the.parts. The rocking action of the blade relative to the wiper arm about the axis of the spigots is limited by the ears engaging the side walls of the housing 11. The parts of the connector may be interchanged, i.e. the spigots may be carried by the wiper arm and the housing by the wiper blade. Also the housing may be permanently or detachably secured to the arm and it is not necessary for both spigots to be spring pressed. The member 2 may be formed as a die-casting having a passage in which the helical spring may be positioned.
