Abstract

664,963. Electro-magnetic relays. PLESSEY. CO., Ltd. June 16, 1950. [June 16, 1949] No. 16077/49. Class 38 (v). The time of operation or release of a relay is controlled by associating the relay with a non-linear resistance L3 which forms one arm of a Wheatstone bridge arrangement the other three arms of which are constituted by ordinary resistances R3, R4; R5. In the form shown, wherein momentary closure of a switch' S causes the relay RL to operate for a predetermined time, closure of the switch S causes the relay RL to operate and close a maintaining contact H which places the battery BA across the points 3, 4 of the bridge. The resistance L3 heats up till the bridge becomes balanced or nearly so whereupon the current' through the relay RL is so reduced 'that it releases. The resistance L3 may be a metal filament or carbon filament lamp or a barretter.
