664,331. Cooking and pulping apples &c. SVENSKA CHOKLADFABRIKS AKTIEBOLAGET. Oct. 14, 1949 [Oct. 15, 1948], No. 26404/49. Classes 28 (i), 28 (ii) and 49. In pulping apples &c. by steam cooking the apples are caused to rub against one another to remove each outer layer as it is softened by the cooking so as to quicken the operation, rings 7 being provided inside an apple-receiving inner perforated rotating cylinder 5 to slow up the movement of the apples from the right hand end to the left, and so give sufficient time for the rubbing action. The apples are fed from a hopper 10 by a screw conveyer 9 to the inside of the open ended rotated cylinder 5 which is perforated so that the pulp, when formed, passes through to the annular space between the inner and outer cylinders 1 along which it is traversed to the outlet 13 by a helical rib 8 on the outside of the inner cylinder 5. Steam from a pipe 3 enters the outer cylinder 1 through nozzles 2 and flows generally in counter direction to, the feed of the apples and passes out through the hopper 10, since the pulp outlet 13 forms a trap. The steam from the nozzles 2 keeps clear the perforations 6 in the inner cylinder 5. The left over cores pass out through the end of the cylinder 5 and drop down into the pulp outlet 13.
