A drawing instrument of the universal setsquare type having two arms a, b, pivoted together at c is provided in the arm b with an aperture or gap having at the side adjacent the other arm a a drawing face or edge f which in the closed position of the arms makes a small angle, e.g. 15 degrees, with the base edge of the arm a and rises towards the pivot point c of the set square. A drawing face or edge g may also be provided on the same edge of the aperture h as the drawing edge f and may be used for drawing or measuring angles of opposite sign to. those drawn or measured by edge f.
