Abstract

659,922. Electrolytic apparatus. ICXI, J. J. G. March 23, 1949, Nos. 7957 and 7958. Convention dates, March 23, 1948 and Nov. 24, 1948. [Class 41] A pad-type of electrode is provided with a cooling member in contact therewith. The cooling member may have longitudinal or transverse ribs, or may be hollow and have cooling liquid circulated therethrough. As shown in Fig. 2, an anode 1 of platinum or graphite and a pad 6 are held within a cap 2 of insulating material. In contact with the anode is a member 4 which is provided with cooling ribs 5 and is a good conductor, being made, for example, of aluminium. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, the cooling means comprises a tubular assembly of longitudinal ribs 5 to which the anode 10 is adjustably secured. A pencil-shaped pad 11 is held on the anode by a collar 12.
