Abstract

658,044. Lubricators. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 16, 1949, No. 13005. Convention date, May 27, 1948. [Classes 12 (iii)] [Also in Group II] A lubrication system for a high-speed shaft 2, as for a turbine rotor 22, consisting of two coaxial quill shafts 3, 5, defining a central bore 4 enclosed by an annular passage 6. comprises passing lubricant, gravity fed from a reservoir 14, through a centrifugal impeller 15 and the blades 17 of a member 16, and along the annular passage 6, wherein air-free liquid is centrifugally separated to the outside thereof to flow through radial shaft holes 24, 26 of bearings 19, 20. The outflowing lubricant from the bearings actuates injectors 31, 32 to withdraw spent lubricant from the bearing housing 1, a conduit 35 ensuring the retention of a certain minimum depth of oil therein, and to withdraw foam through the bore 4, and, via an end bearing 8, a conduit 12, whence both fluids are returned to the reservoir 14 via a conduit 38.
