Abstract

1376439 Lubricating spindles WILHELM STAHLECKER GmbH 7 Dec 1971 [14 Dec 1970 (2)] 56820/71 Heading DID [Also in Division F2] A thrust bearing assembly for a horizontal shaft 4 of an open-end spinning rotor 5 comprises a housing containing a thrust bearing 7, the housing containing liquid lubricant, and the shaft passing through an aperture 12 in the housing, there being a seal around the shaft. The shaft 4 is mounted in air bearings 28, 29 and driven by a belt 6. The thrust bearing has an element movable relative to the end of the shaft so as to reduce wear. The element may be a disc which dips into the lubricant in the housing so that lubricant is carried on the surface of the disc to the bearing zone. In an alternative embodiment the lubricant may be conveyed to the bearing by a wick which is located in a carrier in the housing, the carrier having ducts to conduct lubricant from the wick to the surface of the thrust bearing element.
