Abstract

0.05 to 1.5 per cent of a cellulose ester or ether, e.g cellulose acetate, ethyl cellulose, benzyl cellulose or nitrocellulose, is added to an enamel containing an A-stage phenol-formaldehyde liquid resin, i.e. one containing up to about 35 per cent of water, such as those of Specifications 597,034 and 600,662. In examples stoving enamels comprise a liquid phenol formaldehyde resin containing ethyl cellulose and solvent mixtures as in Specification 600,662, with (1) titanium dioxide and colloidal clay or kaolin; (2) carbon black. The Provisional Specification refers to the alternative addition of small quantities of polymethyl methacrylate or polyvinyl acetate. Specification 315,835, [Class 2 (ii)], also is referred to.
