Abstract

Polyvinyl resins are stabilized by admixing therewith an alcoholate of aluminium. Resins specified are polyvinyl acetate, butyrate, chloride and butyral and polystyrene. Aluminium ethylate alone is specified. Plasticizers such as tricresyl phosphate and other ingredients may be added. The alcoholate may be first dissolved in a solvent such as benzene and the solution added or the solution may be sprayed on or wiped over the surface of a plasticized resin. The composition may be pressed into plates or ejection moulded. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the use of other heavy metal alcoholates excepting those of the alkaline earth metals. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
