Abstract
655,257. Handling pipes in derricks. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. June 18, 1947, No. 16149. Convention date, Aug. 22, 1946. [Class 85] In apparatus for handling pipes in a derrick, one or more platforms mounted in the derrick are arranged to be moved laterally by one or more power operated means also mounted in the derrick. In Fig. 1, the derrick 1 includes draw-works 3 which raises or lowers the drill stem through rope 4, auxiliary hoist 41 for suspending single stands of drill pipe through rope 42, upper and lower means A, B adapted to grasp the ends of a stand and move same laterally, and means D, as described in Specification 655,156, [Group XXII], for moving the stand towards means A, B. The means A comprises a track 11, Fig. 4, fixed to the derrick and supporting a bed-plate 18 movable by a motor 15 and screw 14, the bed-plate carrying a foot-plate 17 and a hook 26, as described in Specification 650,814 for engagement with the stand. The means B is similar but has no foot-plate.
