653,555. Lifting-jacks. CAREY, R. M., and SCHMUCKER, L. W. Dec. 14, 1948, No. 32343. [Class 78 (iii)] A car jacking appliance comprises a groundengaging base 11 pivoted to an adjustable axle engaging arm 12, and a screw and nut or hydraulic jack 10 engageable with the bumper 40, the arrangement being such that on extension of the jack 10 the angle between this jack and the arm 12 is reduced and the car is raised. To enable the appliance to be universally adaptable, the jack has two bumper-engaging lugs 26, 27 on its movable portion, and the arm 12 is telescopically adjustable, a locking pin 31 being provided to engage the selected transverse hole therethrough. Adjustable abutments 28, 35 engage with the base 11 and prevent the arm and jack from pivoting into line with the base. The handle 25 is pivoted to the screw 24 to facilitate storage. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 656,619.
