Abstract

548,979. Lifting-jacks; load-handling machines. MORAN, M. July 23, 1941, No. 9350. [Class 78 (iii)] A combined jack and lifting device comprises a lever 9 pivoted at 8 to a wheeled carriage 1, 2, and an overhanging arm 15 adapted to be secured to the lever in such a manner that its outer end can be used to lift a load from above, as shown, or when the arm is removed a crutch 10 on the lever 9 can be used to raise a load from below. In the construction shown the arm 15 is secured to the lever by a U-bolt 16 in a position determined by a stop 18 ; lateral movement of the arm on the lever is prevented by lugs 19 on the arm engaging the sides of the lever. The lever is rotated about its pivot by means of a screw 11 engaging a nut 12 carried by the lever, the screw being driven by a hand-lever 14 and ratchet-and-pawl mechanism 13. Instead of screw-gear other mechanical gear or electric or hydraulic means may be used.
