Abstract

Alkoxy hydrosilanes are prepared by reacting in the liquid phase an ester of the general formula R4-nSi(OR1)n, wherein R is an alkyl or aryl radical, R1 is an alkyl radical and n is a positive integer from 1 to 4, and a silane having bonded to the silicon atom one hydrogen substituent and at least one chlorine substituent while any unsatisfied bonds may be satisfied with alkyl or aryl radicals, whereby interchange takes place between at least one alkoxy radical of the ester and a chlorine atom of the silane. The reaction may be effected in the presence of free acid, e.g. in the presence of hydrogen chloride formed in situ. All the chlorine substituents of the silane may be replaced by alkoxy substituents. The silane may be of the general formula RmHSiCl3-m, wherein R is alkyl or aryl and m is an integer from 0 to 2. In the examples, the following compounds are prepared in HSi (OC2H5)3, (C6H6)2HSiOC2H5, (CH3)3SiCl, (CH3)3SiOC2H5, CH3HSi(OC2H5)2, C6H5HSi(OC2H5)2, C11H23(C2H5)SiH(OC2H5) and ClSi(OC2H5)3. A number of other alkoxyhydrosilanes which may be prepared are mentioned.
