Abstract

995,720. Valves. KIELER HOWALDSWERKE A.G. March 25, 1964 [April 5, 1963], No. 12678/64. Heading F2V. A rapidly closing valve comprises (Fig. 1) a hollow piston-like closure member 3 slidable in a cylinder 5, the closure member being connected to a spindle 6 on which are mounted cam-followers 8 coacting with a cam 7. Bores 9 are provided to pressure balance the closure member. In operation, as spindle 6 is turned the closure member rises, against the action of a spring 4, until the cam followers locate recesses in the cam surface, which recesses define the open position of the valve. To close the valve, the cam followers are moved out of the recesses by means of a release lever (not shown), and the valve closes under the action of the spring. The operation of the rapidly opening valve of Fig. 2 is similar to the foregoing, opening taking place under the influence of spring 11.
